    • "The Original Gedcom" of genealogical research for early Ulster County, New York! Where source citations are not noted, the narrative is provided or researched independently by gedcom owner/researcher, Lorraine Luke:

There was a Tryntje Roos who married Pieter Meyer and lived in the area of Saugerties. There was also a Tryntje Roos who married Jonas Klyn. Trytnje Roosa and Jonas Klynn children : Margaret, Elizabeth, Rachel, Benjamin Sarah, Mary. Resource : She rry Cornelius at Prodigy FDCK53B. Notes : There is not positive documentation to support the information for Tryntje marrying Jonas Cline although they did marry. Tryntje may have been a daughter of another Roosa who married Jonas. Based on research it appearsthis one is correct though.

    • Married by John Rigdon, Minister of the Gospel.

      E-mail from John H. King
Note, 1/1/08:  The REV JOHN RIGDON was probably a Baptist minister at the time he married JOHN BLACK & MARY CLINE in 1821.  He was soon part of the Disciples of Christ, as was his 1st cousin the REV SIDNEY RIGDON, before Sidney Rigdon became so involved with the Mormon Church in the Western Reserve area of NE Ohio and later at Far West Missouri & Nauvoo Illinois.  Sidney Rigdon served as a theologian for the early Mormon's.  My wife's distant Aunt Sally Schrader and her husband the former Methodist minister Pierce Hawley were also at Far West, having become Mormons near Naperville Illinois.  Mary (Cline) Black's parents Jonas & Mary Cline lived in Fulton Co Illinois, at the same time that the Rev John Rigdon was a Disciples of Christ minister there.  Wm Morley Black left Lawrence Co Illinois as a restless youth to live with his grandparents in Fulton Co Illinois,  at this time in the 1840s.  JOHN BLACK is probably buried at the Spring Hill Churchyard, about 2 miles SW of Bridgeport, Lawrence Co, Illinois.  The Spring Hill Church was an early Disciples of Christ Church and was used by the Shiloh Baptist Congregation, when they were first formed and before they had a church building of their own.  The Baptist minister who formed the Shiloh Church is said to have to told his wife that "he had just formed a church of blacks".  MARY (CLINE) BLACK is buried near the SW corner of the Shiloh Church Cemetery, across the road from the Shiloh Baptist Church;  Shiloh is one mile east of the Spring Hill Cemetery and a mile SW of Bridgeport.  I believe that JOHN & MARY BLACK lived on the farm where Omer Houghtaling lives now, between the Spring Hill Cemetery and the Shiloh Church/Cemetery.

Per website describing the early churches of Ashland Co Ohio at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohacogs/ashchurchbook.html, found 1/1/08:

Baptist Church - Ashland, met in homes in 1824 with Rev. John Rigdon as their stated minister.
Disciples of Christ (Campbellites) - organized in Ashland in 1824 by John Rigdon, having been suspended from the Baptists.

      Per http://www.sidneyrigdon.com/RigHist/RigHist2.htm, found 1/1/08:

Interview with Wm. H. and E. L Kelley, 14 May 1884, in Pittsburgh Leader, 18 May 1884, cited in Joseph Smith III and Heman C. Smith, The History of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4 vols. (Independence, MO: Herald House, 1967 reprint), 4:453. Rigdon's minister cousin, John Rigdon, also left testimony denying his cousin's involvement in producing the Book of Mormon, as recorded by Sidney Knowlton for John Page:
I hereby certify that I heard Rev. John Rigdon, a member of the Church of Disciples, known by the name of Campbellites, sometime in March, 1840, at his own residence in Fulton Co., Illinois, say in answer to a question propounded to him by Elder John E. Page, as follows, to wit: Question by Mr. Page -- "Sir, what are your views in relation to Sidney Rigdon having any connection with the origin of the Book of Mormon, as it is reported, that he, Rigdon had access to the Spaulding manuscript, from which he transcribed or originated the Book of Mormon?" Answer by Rigdon -- "I do not believe from my acquaintance with him, (S. Rigdon) having known him from his infancy till after the publication of said Book of Mormon, as well as one can know another, being on the greatest terms of intimacy at the time said book was printed, and from all the circumstances connected with his life, character and conduct, that Sidney Rigdon had any thing whatever to do with it" (statement of Sidney A. Knowlton in John E. Page, The Spaulding Story, Concerning the Origin of the Book of Mormon, Duly Examined, and Exposed to the Righteous Contempt of a Candid Public [Pittsburgh: n.p., 1843], 8). [3]

Birthplace also found as Wawarsing (formed from Roschester in 1806) Ulster, New York, here in the Dutch Reformed Church, she was christened as Maria.
