      CHILD 2  Asahel Palmer
Birth: His name & birth date was written by his mother in her Family Record as Asahel born on the 26 Jan 1819, at Cramahe Township, Northumberland County, in Newcastle District of Upper Canada. He gave that he was born in Upper Canada, it was by 1867 called Ontario Province. His parents moved from Cramahe to Haldimand Twp, then bef Apr 25 1823, they removed to Loughborough Township, Frontenac County, Midland District, Upper Canada, when he was only five, to a place over 100 miles east. His paternal Palmer grandparents both lived & died in Cramahe, his grandmother-Hannah Wilkinson Palmer died 1832 & grandfather, George Sr. died l833. His father, George Palmer Junior, received 100 acres for his service in the Canadian Army, but did not wish to farm & sold it in Dec 1820, and turned to his cobbler business, which he did at Loughborough and/or Kingston, the big town.
Asahel was only fourteen when his father, George Jr. died 4 or 8 Dec 1833, leaving his mother Phebe Draper Palmer with six children & she soon gave birth to his sister Rhoda, their seventh child. His sister Eliza was born & died at Loughborough Twp, as did his father by December 1833. His maternal grandparents, William & Lydia Lathrop Draper, their children, Wm, Zemira, Marvin, Alfred and Carson; the aunts Mary, Lucretia, Fanny & Lydia had just married in 1824, all lived there to give him solace and good company to grow up with in Loughbrough.
Asahel's great grandmother, Lydia Rogers Draper had died in this same area back in 1807, and his great grandfather, Thomas Draper had lived and died by 1817 back in Cramahe; or he may have come to Loughborough to his son Thomas Jr's place where they all lived on the 300 acres he had bought by 1824/5. Here a Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was organized and his mother joined in February l833, as did her father & brothers, and this Uncle Thomas Draper Jr.
The Drapers soon leave Canada and join the saints in Kirtland, Ohio, where the first temple was dedicated the day before his mother received her Patriarchal Blessing on the 28 Mar 1836, the day after the manifestations of the Spirit were seen by all who lived in Kirtland, Geauga (now Lake County), Ohio, which we think Asahel may have been a partaker, with his brothers and sisters, all except Lovina, who had married in l834 to Henry I. Munro, and remained in Loughborough Twp. until 1839. Lovina shows with child born in Sangamon Co. IL, and Asahel is there 1848. together with mother, Phebe Palmer, by 1842 at Nauvoo, Hancock, IL.
His marriage record not found by this researcher, but Asahel & Evaline would have married in Kirtland, Ohio, or Pike County, IL, where his mother, Phebe Palmer is shown on U.S. 6\\1840 Census with her Drapers. Or did they marry at Nauvoo, Hancock, IL., where his mother is shown as P(hebe) D(raper) Palmer on the same record that Asahel is shown as Asel Parmer with wife EVALINE PARMER, This record shows Asahel & Evaline Carter were married between 1840-42, (Seen in Vol.33 on microfiche #6,031,596, 1839-1842 by Susan Easton Blacks' Books), and gave Asel Farmer part TAX 1842 in Hancock County, IL. Also listed on page 028 as First Ward in Nauvoo, Asel Parmer & Evaline Parmer, his wife.
Asahel named his first child Phebe (Orson T. Glidden), she was born 1842, we gave at Hancock County, IL.
Their next child Emaline Palmer (Clark Oliver CHILDS) gave she was born at Buffalo, Sangamon, Illinois. Eveline Carter's record with her family was found in the LDS Register Table 289.309/P6973, Vol.I, p.248. Church record gave her father, Jared Carter died in July 1850, her mother, Lydia Carter is shown on 1850 Census living near Evaline at DeKalb County, IL, with her children.
1850 Census of DeKalb County, IL, p.379, of F#007677, age 30, b. Canada, farmer & wife Evaline age 25 b. We have a letter written by his bro Zemira to sister Lovina dated 9/l9/1880, wherein he asks: "How long has it been since you heard from Asahel & where was he then?" (A copy of that original letter can be read on page 454b in the Book THE DESCENDANTS OF GEORGE PALMER & PHEBE DRAPER, 1963 by Sarah P.Collinwood FHL #929.273/Pl83c & in film 1,321,355 BY 2000.
Joyce Fry Lang, his descendant visited with LPAllen 1997, shared Asahel's picture, a fine looking man, & her parents & gdparents thru Albert Orlando Palmer, great families. We in Mesa were very happy & pleased to become acquainted with Joyce since she learned she was descended through Phebe & George PALMER, and contacted Lois & shared items, since the pageant of our Phebe& son Zemira in the Mormon Battalion, a U.S. Battalion with a name rather than number.
