Article in the Orlando Evening Star paper Monday, June 5, 1961 under" Local Government in review":

Martha Roach is going to retire a record when she leaves city hall June 16.  Mrs. Roach, genial taker of taxes, counts 40 years behind a desk in the old and new city halls.
And yet she's only been employed by the city for 37 years.  The explanation is that the former city hall, now the police department, was once Orlando's only school and she attended it from the eighth grade on.
Back in 1924, shortly after her first husband died.  Mrs. Roach went to work for the Seminole Abstract Co. for $15 a week.  The city's part-time tax collector, A. A. Patch, offered her $20 a week.
The city has was on the second floor of the old armory on Court St. when Mrs. Roach became a city employee on June 7, 1924.  The next month it moved to the former school building on Orange between Jackson and South Streets.
Tax collectors came and went.  There was, after Patch, R. A. Sauis, R. G. Higgins, W. C. Lanier, E. Glenn Henning, J. Edward Greaves and now Don Croft.
But Mrs. Roach went on, as pleasantly as possible, collecting taxes from the willing and the unwilling.  What she plans on missing least of all are the phone calls from the irate.
Young Martha moved to Orange County from a Kansas farm in 1913.  Her father, Thomas R. Frint, bought the 40-acre grove (Laden Place) on Lake Pineloch.
"I walked to and from school every day and we didn't have paved roads then."
In 1920 she was in charge of circulation for The Sentinel.  Those were the days when Billy Glenn was the publisher.
In her city work she saw Orlando grow where the difference really showed, in real estate.
On June 16 she will start a three-weeks' vacation that long tenure entitles her to.  She plans to trip no further than 1624 Dauphin St. where she has 65 orchids and a lot of African violets that need her attention.
Last week co-workers in city hall treated her to a luau dinner and exotic drinks and later in the week all the people in the finance division threw a picnic for her at Wadeview Park.
There's one privilege she hopes the city will extend beyond her term of employment.  She hopes she can attend coffee breaks in the employee's lounge from time to time. [1]
